ISAWHIS IB PYP Exhibition Review

2025-06-15

In the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), the PYP Exhibition (PYPx) represents a culminating learning experience for Grade Five students. It is not only a reflection of their six-year PYP journey, but also their first opportunity to act as independent inquirers—conducting in-depth research, presenting their findings, and engaging with real-world issues.

At ISA Wuhan, the PYPx is more than a showcase; it is a passionate and creative learning journey. This year’s theme, “Smart Cities,” invited students to explore the transdisciplinary concept of “Who We Are,” prompting them to reimagine the relationship between cities, technology, and people within a global context. Through their own lens, they responded to reality—and envisioned the future.

Exploring Smart Cities:
Starting from “Who We Are”

This exhibition centers on the idea that “Technology in smart cities is reshaping how we live, interact, and understand our civic responsibilities.” Inspired by this vital contemporary issue, students formed six research groups based on their interests. Their chosen topics for in-depth study include water resources (SDG 6), public safety (SDG 3), smart healthcare (SDG 3), smart homes (SDG 9 & 11), urban mobility (SDG 9), and smart retail systems (SDG 9).

Each group developed three distinct central ideas and corresponding research questions for their topic. They explored these issues from both a local community and a global perspective, examining the challenges and potential for social progress. All projects are linked to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), effectively translating the IB principle of “global awareness” into practical application.
